Integrating social networking and news, Zite for iPad is pretty slick at combining both of these things. With this App you can add Twitter, Google Reader, Delicious and read it later. Once you connect the services of your choice the App will “Build a Magazine” for you. Then much like that news stand publication you will get different articles based off of your connected social services.
If you only added one service you can go back and add more at a later time. You can also refine what information it displays throughout the “Customize” option. There are many choices of sections you can add, from World news and Pets to Web design and Technology. Zite will even let you enter your own topic to add.
I have only used this for a short time now but I find it interesting enough to keep coming back. Once I add all of my topics I this will be one of my most used Apps.
Now you might be thinking what’s the difference between this and a RSS feed? well this takes all the guess-work out of it for you. If you are not familiar with setting up RSS feeds and how to view them, this is the perfect App. It analyzes the topics from your social sites and organizes it for you in an easy to read swipe through style interface.
This App was recently acquired by CNN and although the price was not disclosed the media reported $20-$25 million price tag on the company. CNN being an entity of Time Warner, States that it will keep Zite as a stand alone business and Zite referring to itself as a “Personalized magazine” outsources all its content from other media sources. This was cause for a cease-and-desist that was filed against the company for copyright infringement. Among the companies involved were none other than Time Inc. a corporate sister of CNN. This lead Zite to make their App free of charge as well as Ad Free to expel legalities.
I think this App is a great addition to anyone’s device. My rating for this App is a 10 out of 12 VOLTS
